Aluminum oxide is an amphoteric oxide of aluminum. It is also known as alumina. It is widely used in abrasives, refractories, electronics, heat-resistant fibers, ceramics, and glass industries due to its wide availability, high thermal stability, and melting point as well as excellent strength and hardness. Alumina distinguishes itself from many composite materials due to its outstanding mechanical, chemical, and thermal properties.

Aluminum oxide (Al2O3) is widely used as an electrical insulator because of its high ionic inter-atomic bonds, excellent thermal resistive properties, and chemical stability. In electronic and microelectronic applications, Al2O3 is used as a substrate for integrated circuits, as well as high-temperature and corrosive-resistant coating materials.
